Recently after providing a pre-purchase Damp & Timber survey for a mid terraced house in central Swindon rising damp was identified as the main problem and we provided a full report with a detailed level of works.
The client was planning to completely refurbish the house and convert it into an HMO so there where to be a number of internal alterations with new stud walls and existing solid walls removed. Using our quotation along with the Builders estimate the client was able to budget accurately for the project and on completion we where contracted to do the works. Working with the Builders we presented a reduced specification which allowed them to complete all the preparation and finishing elements of the damp proofing but still allowed us to provide a guarantee.
We forwarded a plan of the property detailing walls that required hacking off and after receiving emailed photographs of the preparation works we arranged to visit. After drilling and injecting a chemical damp proof course (DPC) we applied a sand/cement render with a waterproofing/salt inhbiting additive. Works complete the builder continued with the project and the client was provided with a guarantee for the treated areas.
Though our quotation was reduced significantly due to the preparation and finishing being removed it was a much more sensible approach and didnt mean we where part plastering walls or having to split works into phases.
