Professional and reliable woodworm treatment servies covering Somerset and Dorset
What is Woodworm?
Normally applied to the destruction of building timbers by insects, Woodwormis the term used to indicate the presence of a wood boring beetle. Whilst treatment is not always necessary damage can be significant and costly, particularly in roof and flooring timber structures.
There are many species of beetle that will damage building timbers though in the UK the most prolific are Common furniture, Deathwatch, House Longhorn, Powder post and Ptilinus and the correct identification of these is paramount to a successful treatment.
The simplest method of identification is to examine the emergence (flight) holes and the bore dust (Frass) though it should be noted that historical evidence can be hard to separate from present activity and for this reason it’s important to understand the Life cycle of a wood boring beetle.
Efective Woodworm Treatment
An adult beetle which can for the most part fly will lay its eggs in cracks and splits or even in previous bore holes. When hatched the Larvae will bury into the timber and it is this process that causes the most significant damage. The Larvae will eventually turn into a Pupa with an adult finally boring its way out to leave an exit hole.
The shape and size of the exit holes and examination of the dust will allow us to identify the beetle though at this point the Larvae may have been boring away for as long as five years.
Effective treatment is essential and may be a combination of timber repair or replacement along with insecticidal treatments. We have access to all of the latest available chemical treatments for both eradication and prevention and with most there are minimal re-entry times as low as an hour so disruption is kept to a minimum.

Services We Offer
Some of the services we offer in property preservation
If you have issues in your home such as peeling paint or loose plaster, mould spotting or visible stains and ‘tide’ marks then you may have a damp problem and if so we have the solution. Whether it’s rising or penetrating damp we will provide you with a diagnosis and the solution.
Condensation in its simplest form is when moist air comes into contact with colder air or a colder surface and the water contained in the air is released to form condensation in the air or on the surface. It often results in black mould growth on walls and surfaces or you can see water droplets.
Aged and Period properties can often be cold and condensation will form on external walls, we can provide various types of solid insulation and often incorporate this with a level of damp proofing. Internal temperatures will improve and mould spotting reduces.
