Rising Damp treatment and how to identify it

During a pre purchase building survey on a 19th century house in Radstock the surveyor suggested that there were damp issues to the ground floor walls. The cause was identified as rising damp.

We used a protimeter to test the walls and a set of readings where produced that began at a high level to the top of the skirting board and reduced as testing moved up the walls. Readings where recorded showing the level of mositure and the height from the floor at which the reading was taken though as the pictures show there is no doubt the wall is subject to damp issues!

The purchaser was provided with a comprehensive damp and timber report and this included a detailed specification and cost to rectify the rising damp which we later contracted to complete. Walls are now dry and decorating has begun, customer is happy!

Condensation in its simplest form is when moist air comes into contact with colder air or a colder surface and the water contained in the air is released to form condensation in the air or on the surface. It often results in black mould growth on walls and surfaces or you can see water droplets.
